Area Duties
Tours We need Docents to lead tours. Its easy and we will train you! Demand is mostly for weekday mornings in the spring and early summer. Be a Docent!
Labeling "Spotting" and recording broken or missing labels, researching records, engraving, assembling and installing labels.
Surveying No experience necessary. Survey new trails and roads, building sites and individual plants for accession records under the direction of Volunteer Fred Philips or Emeritus Director Louis Erickson -- Wednesdays, 8 to noon.
Bloom Records Observe and record plants in bloom.
Herbarium Voucher Project No experience necessary. Collect and press specimens of plants growing in the Gardens for the UCR Herbarium. Under direction of Andy Sanders. After training, this can be done on weekends!
Office Help A morning or afternoon commitment once a week to assist in filing, answering phones, and record keeping. Computer experience a plus but not essential.
Crafts Flexible commitment. Help develop ideas for gift items crafted from garden materials and/or of a horticultural or botanical theme. These would be used as fund raising items at Garden events.
Housekeeping Most vacuuming, sweeping and cleaning is done by our very limited staff. Any cleaning would free up staff to do other duties. Conference Room, Gatehouse, Main Office, Schneider House are all included.
The Nursery Propagating, potting, fertilizing, grooming, watering and organizing, also weeding, weeding and weeding both in pots and under benches.
Pond Skimming, grooming water plants and plants at pond margins, planting.
Gunther Dome Grooming, pruning, potting, sweeping, arranging, weeding, labeling.
The Rose Garden Pruning in season; weeding and mulching paths and beds, deadheading; help at Annual Rose Pruning Demonstration in January.
Iris Garden Weeding most of the year; digging, dividing and replanting in summer/fall.
